Museum opening times and 2024 calendar
The museum and gardens open every day at 10.30am.
- Rides on the gallopers start at 10.30am, which is when the exhibition hall and all other displays are open to visitors
- Railway journeys begin at 11.00am
- Last rides are normally at 4.30pm, but if you are visiting during one of our special event days, they may go on for a little longer
- Last admission to the museum and gardens is 4.00pm - one hour before the site closes
- The museum closes its doors at 5.00pm, although in October closing times and last train departures may vary depending on the time of dusk, so please give us a call on 01379 686900 to check before travelling

Steam days
Wednesdays to Sundays are always our steam days when we aim to operate at least two steam trains and the gallopers.
At weekends, on bank holidays and during school holidays we aim to operate three steam trains and the gallopers.
Please note that while we strive to offer authentic steam train experiences, we may occasionally need to use a diesel locomotive during periods of extreme heat or when our steam engines require maintenance. We thank you in advance for your understanding.
