Steam Engineer

We are seeking a suitably experienced heritage steam engineer to join our workshop team at Bressingham Steam Museum. Heritage Steam Engineers at Bressingham collaborate with museum staff, volunteers, and external suppliers to ensure that steam and internal combustion machinery, as well as rolling stock, are maintained in a good state of repair that is both safe and sympathetic, commensurate with the historic significance of the items.

If you are an experienced mechanical engineer who understands steam engines and railways and is interested in taking on the challenge of maintaining often unique and historic heavy machinery, then you may be the person we are looking for.

The role of a heritage steam engineer is varied, and work can range from routine maintenance and inspection, through to full restoration projects, through to downing tools and going to assist with an emergency breakdown.

The job is varied, challenging, but ultimately rewarding. You will have great interpersonal skills, be a problem solver, have a good work ethic, a flexible approach to tasks, and a genuine interest in the success of the museum and the visitor experience.
